LifeChange: Psalms by the Navigators

I had already worked through the Philippians LifeChange guide so was excited to see how the Navigators would deal with the Psalms. I was not disappointed. The book works through each genre of prayer shown in the Psalms, providing in-depth study questions, practical applications, useful illustrations, and hands-on group guides for each. Each chapter gives a series of Psalms which could be studied, and works through a selection of verses in great detail to give a headstart. The language is straightforward but not patronisingly simple. The concepts are complex but the application is easy to understand and thoroughly biblical. The historical context and word studies cast real light on this important Bible book. In case you haven't picked it up, I am a fan. If you're looking for a personal or group study guide for prayer or the Psalms, look no further. There's even an immensely useful list of resources at the end. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from NavPress Publishers as part of their Blogger Review Program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. A Great Little Study Guide for the book of Psalms

Psalms is a book in the Life Change series by NavPress it would be a great study guide for the individual person or would also be great used in a group setting. Since the layout of this book is very simple and straight forward I think it would be an easy study guide for the new christian or someone a little more seasoned in God's word who wants to do a more in depth study of the book of Psalms. I really like the clear concise way that each lesson is set up with questions for thought and discussion as well as a section called which are questions that give way for more personal reflection. I would have to say that overall my favorite part of the lesson was the exercise called For Further Study, in this section we are often given scripture to look up on our own that is usually outside the book of Psalms that ties into the lesson we are being taught, so when you finish a lesson in addition to learning more about Psalms you are actually directed to scripture that is very pertinent to what is being taught about Psalms. I would recommend this book to anyone young or old who is looking for a simple straight forward way to study the book of Psalms. Great Series

The study is well organized and superbly written. I love that there is so much by way of application questions and activities and that there are reference notes already in the study. It's intended to be that you only need this book and your Bible to study and that is a big bonus for me. I can easily get "bogged down" with trying to find historical and topical references and information that I forget the spirit of the study. The study is written at a more-than-basic but not seminary-education-required level. I think this will be very useful as I teach my women's Sunday School class in the future. It will be easily adaptable to all the different levels in my class.

Highly Recommend!

The newest in the LifeChange Series by NavPress is a study on Psalms. The writers approach the book of Psalms as a book of prayers. The ten chapters focus on topics like prayers of worship and praise and prayer and waiting on the Lord. Each chapter states a lesson objective, a desired action, and a list of psalms for this lesson. A combination of commentary, selected readings, questions, and word studies allow individuals to process and gain a better understanding of the book of Psalms. The margins of each page include additional questions or suggestions for study that will allow the user to take their personal study deeper. Chapters end with suggestions for group study that will help new group leaders facilitate study and discussion easily. I have done several of these studies in the past and always love them. They're great for individual study or for a group setting. Plus, I can do the "basic" study for each chapter or go deeper with the questions in the margins if I have more time or if I want to learn more about a specific topic. I would HIGHLY recommend this study (or any other in the series) for those looking for a new devotional study. I received a FREE copy of this study from NavPress in exchange for my fair and honest review.

PRAY... Learn all about it....

This is a study of the book of Psalms, it teaches about prayer and how to make a change in your own life with GOD by your side. The book is very easy to carry and will fit in any purse, bible cover or your briefcase. The set up is in a very easy format in very basic English. The pages have a side bar for notes and the questions have space to be answered. This is a 10 week study and each week covers a different subject, examples: week 1 prayer, week 2 confession and acknowledgement, week 3 intersession and supplication… and so on. I found this to be a great weekly bible study for teens or adults, Sunday School or mid week at home study. It is the type of study that you don’t have to start from the beginning, if you have new people they can jump right into the study at whatever week you are on. I enjoyed this study and learned a lot that I didn’t know about the psalms, it gave me a different perspective on prayer and how to apply prayer to everyday life. It is the type of study that you can do at your own pace and get a lot out of it. I would recommend this to anyone.
