Write for Discipleship Journal

Discipleship Journal welcomes queries from freelance writers--even first-time writers. Our writer's guidelines (below) will give you all the information you need to submit a query letter (we do not accept unsolicited manuscripts). Please read our guidelines carefully and study at least one issue of the magazine before submitting a query letter.

Most of the articles we publish fall into one of three categories:

  • Teaching on a Scripture passage, such as a study of an Old Testament character or a short story or a short section of an epistle that explains the meaning and shows how to apply it to daily life
  • Teaching on a topic, such as what Scripture says about  forgiveness or materialism
  • How-to, such as tips on deepening your devotional life or witnessing in the workplace

General Articles

Although each issue of Discipleship Journal features a specific theme, there is no need for freelances to coordinate with theme topics. We encourage writers new to us to query regarding general articles, which can touch on any aspect of living as a disciple of Christ. Click here to download General Writer's Guidelines.

Departments

Freelance writers are also welcome to submit material for our DJ Plus department. DJ Plus offers a collection of short, practical articles that give readers ideas and help for their personal ministries. Articles focus on small groups, serving, evangelism, discipling, missions, and teaching. Click here to download DJ Plus Writer's Guidelines.

If, after reading the guidelines, you have additional questions, you may contact the editors. Please do not email questions or send queries until you have carefully studied our writer's guidelines. You will need the free copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or print these files.
